Determining a composite value for the saturated hydraulic conductivity in a recharge area of the Guarani Aquifer System, using pedotransfer functions

ABSTRACT The saturated hydraulic conductivity (Ks) is an essential property for modeling water and contaminants movement into aquifers. However, Ks extremely variable, even when considering nearby locations, which poses a challenge at catchment scales. Field measurements of are most the time expensive, time-consuming labor-intensive. This study aimed to obtain, purposes, using pedotransfer functions (PTFs), composite value scale, in recharge area Guarani Aquifer System. Soil samples were taken across area, each sampling point determined by several PTF methods. At same field Guelph permeameter. Average values all points calculated PTFs similar average obtained measurements. use proved be faster simpler method efficiently determine watershed capture stochastic variation terms soil pore combination scale.
